This week we chatted with Latina blogger OG Monique of MoniqueFrausto.com (formerly Curves and Chaos™). She started her digital career way back in the day with the launch of a directory dedicated to Latina Blogs. Many credit her for starting the Latinas online revolution, and we agree! If you were looking for a blog written by a Latina, Blogs by Latinas was the go-to resource.
3 things I learned taking a blog break
If anyone knows about the ups and downs of the influencer space, it’s Monique. Add a great filter and tell a fun story, and it looks like the life from the outside. Truth is, creating content daily comes with its challenges. Add a changing digital landscape to the mix and it can be downright stressful. Stepping back from time to time is a much needed practice we advise many bloggers to do, especially if you’re in a creative rut.
Monique recently took a break from blogging, which gave her some time to really think about the purpose of her work and the direction of her career. The break wasn’t planned, however. Her site actually crashed but instead of freaking out she saw it as a sign to take a step back.
While the can’t-stop-won’t-stop method can be alluring and holds a promise of growth, it can be easy to forget that sometimes slowing down is just what we need. So we asked Monique to share what she learned during this time.
- I realized first and foremost that by actually embracing this unexpected break, I was doing something good for myself. I was allowing myself to step back and breathe for the first time in a really long time.
- I also learned that it’s OK to take a break from something you’re passionate about. This gave me the time and the space I needed to be inspired again to share in a way that makes me happy.
- As I stepped back, I was able to view the blogging community and social media space differently than when I was immersed in it. I gained a whole new perspective of where I am today compared to when I first started in 2008. I think it will definitely help me along the rest of my blogging journey.
Bloggers, don’t feel you have to be on 24/7 to be successful. Yes, hard work does pay off. But if a break is what you need, (or mini breaks throughout the year), we’re here to tell you that it’s OK. The internet will still be here when you come back!
